Tuesday’s Tip – Get rid of that junk mail

Tuesdays_Tips

I am still in the process of tacking all that paper clutter from last week, I have decided to make a very conscious effort to get our names off those pesky junk mail lists.  I have always been good about just standing over the garbage can each afternoon and tossing all the “junk” that comes in.  This is still a great habit to have in place because it prevents all the unnecessary “stuff” from making its way to my Inbox where only the Action Items go.  However, as Aby pointed out recently, it really makes more sense to just get our names off those lists completely and save myself this step in the process.  It sounds good to me.

Less Time Purging = More Time Playing.

In order to do this, I am simply taking a minute or two each afternoon to call those pesky credit card companies and/or catalogs that we never purchase from to remove our names from their mailing list.  I know there are several websites and companies out there that can help you do this with just a click of your mouse and a small fee but I am going to try to do it the “old fashioned way” and simply make 1 or 2 phone calls each day as the mail comes in.

I am also doing this with my email Inbox too.  I am removing our name and unsubscribing to a lot of those sales emails and newsletters that I just never make the time to read.  It should help me keep my email more under control so that I do not have to sort through and delete a bunch of stuff each morning that I have no intention of reading.  I am not talking about spam mail here but those weekly Pampers emails and Children’s Place sales.  Don’t get me wrong…  I love me some Pampers diapers and Children’s Place clothes but I do not need to see the sales and latest features every other day.

I have to say that with just 15 minutes each day over the past week that our desk is already looking better and I am feeling more on top of all the paper that comes into our home.  My next project this week is tackling a little bit of the file cabinet and purging those files that we no longer need.  Mr. Shredder…  Here I come!!

I never thought about contacting people about the mailers...what a great idea. I have been going through my Inbox and unsubscribing to things a lot lately and it's so nice.
